Thank God for fun friends in cool places. There’s only a small handful of people in the entire world who get to experience the things my friend Pat Addiss does. Pat’s one of those truley rare New Yorker’s New Yorker whose background in the theatre hosts a string of Tony’s and Broadway hits as long as your arm.
However lucky I got to even know her I don’t know, but honored I am and so very grateful that from time to time she takes me with her to very cool events like the opening night on Broadway of Eclipsed and the after party at Gotham Hall that I posted about back on my birthday in March, and here, as you’ll see, the unveiling of Lupita Nyong’o’s caricature at Sardi’s.
How many people ever get to attend something as special as this, but for Pat it’s just another day at work, and I bet most of you never knew that Sardi’s has this semi-secret VIP room upstairs on the forth floor or that you get to it by an elevator through a non-discript entrance to the building next door. Well, I never knew and just being up there made me feel like I had entered into some secret inner sanctum of the Great White Way’s honored elite.
I loved it.
Did you ever feel self conscious that you’re having an out of body expereince in public or while being in the middle of a crowd and looking around to see if anyone is noticing? 😀 I certainly did and actually started looking to find a mirrior to make sure it was actually me that was there. 😀 but there I was rubbing elbows with famous NY Post theatre critics, acclaimed producers, award winning directors, Tony award nominated actors and the best of the best of Broadway and standing along side Oskar Eustis the Artistic Director of the Public Theatre who brought this years two biggest hits, Eclipsed and Hamilton to Broadway.
Well, thanks be to God and thank you Pat Addiss you are so much fun to hang out with 🙂
I loved being there,
Thank you also for giving me the ok to share the expereince here, to the best of my ability, with these pictures.
